Read the prospectus »

Our Mission

ASU established the Global Institute of Sustainability to:

  • Identify the grand challenges of sustainability
  • Advance knowledge for applied practical solutions
  • Create new tools for improved decision-making
  • Prioritize university-wide efforts toward sustainable practices
  • Build global research partnerships

Our Four Cornerstones

ASU’s framework for addressing the challenges of sustainability builds upon four cornerstones spanning disciplines, campuses, and institutional boundaries.

Our Strategy

The Global Institute of Sustainability provides leadership and coordination for university sustainability initiatives. Our first-ever School of Sustainability trains the next generation of sustainability practitioners, entrepreneurs, and leaders. An emphasis on sustainability across the curriculum directs coursework, research, and outreach toward solving today’s most important problems. A university-wide commitment to sustainable operations encompasses all units at all four campuses.

Our Focus on Urban Environments

With more than half of the world’s population living in cities, the key to global sustainability is making our cities sustainable. The Institute places special emphasis on urban environments in research and education, particularly focusing on Greater Phoenix as an urban laboratory where solutions to water, energy, transportation, and livability are largely applicable to other rapidly urbanizing areas around the world.

Conscious Local Living presents:

Conscious Living Raising Vibrations - the topic-promises to be enlightening, educational and empowering!

Our first Local Face is Thomas Brown who will introduce us to R.I.S.E. - In 2008, a recorded 35,933 people died as a result of suicide in the United States, leaving their friends and family with conflicted feelings of guilt and blame, anger and sorrow.  Why does this cycle continue?

Two dedicated men, who’ve felt the destructive impact caused by the suicide of a family member, will embark on a pilgrimage to raise awareness and invite participation, as they tour more than 7,000 miles across the United States. Thomas Brown and Zachary Chipps met each other in Phoenix, Arizona, and were surprised to learn that they both had brothers who had committed suicide.  This life-changing trauma created a unique bond between the men, which has prompted their own call to service.

Their mission is to inspire the transformation in one’s life by creative self-expression, through devoted self-reflection, thus they have titled their pilgrimage, Revolution Inspired by Self Evolution (R.I.S.E.). Their inspirational journey will begin on March 1, 2012 at the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, and is scheduled to end September 30, 2012 in Wappengers Falls, NY.

Our Innovative Project: Innovator Berkley Roberts will introduce us to RAISED VIBRATION - What is RAISED VIBRATION?

Raised Vibration is the idea that bringing together communities of people to celebrate and appreciate life could actually raise the energy, awareness, and consciousness of mankind itself. That the actual vibration of being human is raised when joy and bliss are SHARED. To literally RAISE our VIBRATION!

We believe who you are, what you are doing and how you feel as an individual truly does make a difference for everyone as a whole. It’s the idea that experiencing joy and celebration with a community of people truly does lift the human spirit.

You matter. What you are up to matters. How you feel matters. So join the revolution to RAISE the VIBRATION today!
